I just wanted to take a minute to say Thank You to all the men and women who gave their lives so that we can enjoy the freedom we do today. One day a year seems such a small tribute to those who gave every thing.
we made our annual pilgrimage down to far hills for the parade & ceremony & hot dogs. army colonel gave a fine speech, short and right on the money: they died so we might have liberty.
it's just unfortunate we have essentially a professional armed force. i would propose a term of 2 to 3 yrs of selective service following high school or college. perhaps we put those who volunteer in harm's way and all others in the rear with the gear, but some form of service might make our freedoms something we do not simply take for granted.
